Alexander Ovechkin jumping head hit on Zbynek Michalek

By Kevin on January 25, 2012 in Hits, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals

Ovechkin has been suspended for three games for his jumping head hit on Pittsburgh’s Zbynek Michalek. This is a shame really, because he had the opportunity to deliver a nice hard hit, but for whatever reason he decided he wanted to be superman and try and give Michalek a concussion.

Since the incident and the suspension, Ovechkin has also dropped out of the all-star game.

Zbynek Michalek elbows Matt Hendricks in the back of the head

By Kevin on January 25, 2012 in Hits, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals

The the same game that Ovechkin targets his head, Michalek delivers a nasty elbow to the back of Hedricks’ head, giving him a face full of board. This hit is absolutely disgusting and I suppose Michalek knows what it feels like after getting the same treatment from Ovechkin.

Henrik Zetterberg gets a game misconduct for a non-hit on Nikita Nikitin

By Kevin on January 25, 2012 in Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Hits

In this play, you can clearly see that Nikitin loses an edge while going into the boards and goes into them hard. Now it is unfortunate that this happened, however, the refs decided to point the finger at Zetterberg because he was skating behind him closely and just so happened to lightly nudge his back with his hand before he went down.

In the video it is clear that Zetterberg did absolutely nothing wrong, I mean, it’s Henrik Zetterberg for Christ’s sake.

Andrew Ference hits Ryan McDonagh from behind

By Kevin on January 22, 2012 in Boston Bruins, Hits, New York Rangers

In yesterdays Boston Bruins vs. New York Rangers game, Bruins player Andrew Ference delivers a very cheap hit to the back of Ryan McDonagh and sends him flying into the boards face-first.

You would think with all of the suspensions this season it would deter players from constantly doing things like this, but I guess they look at it as a (not-so) free vacation.

Ference is set to have a hearing about this event today.

Ilya Bryzgalov to media: “leave me alone, guys”

By Kevin on January 22, 2012 in News & Rants, Philadelphia Flyers

In a post-game interview, Ilya Bryzgalov addresses the issue of the media constantly harassing players with redundant questions about how they are feeling and what is happening with them all of the time.

Transcript

Stop worry about me, worry worry guys about different things, you know, like. Because, too much, too much thing, in the media, everywhere around, you know like, how you feel? Whats going on? What we should have to do with him? Leave me alone, guys. Just let me be, and let me play the hockey.

Buffalo Sabres stuck in St. Louis due to lack of pilots

By Kevin on January 22, 2012 in Buffalo Sabres, News & Rants

Jhonas Enroth has reported on his twitter page “This road trip just got even worst and longer. We don’t have a pilot that can fly us home.”

The team normally flies via chartered USAJet. It seems like fate is just destined to see that this team doesn’t make it anywhere (in the league, and by means of travel).

Tim Wallace nonchalant head hit on Sean Couturier

By Kevin on January 21, 2012 in Hits, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers

Wallace cuts off Couturier and delivers a shoulder directly to his head while acting like he didn’t see it coming. The big question people are asking here is if he meant to do it or not. I think the answer to the question is simple; Wallace shows absolutely no signs of being surprised after the hit. You would think that if it was an accident, he would at least turn around to see what just happened. You know, being surprised at running into someone he “didn’t see”? At least that’s my take on it.

PK Subban slewfoot hit on Chris Kunitz

By Kevin on January 21, 2012 in Hits, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins

This isn’t really a rare occurrence when it comes to PK Subban. He is notorious for doing stuff like this all the time. In the video you can clearly see him putting his left leg behind Kunitz and then shove him backwards (in the OPPOSITE direction of the boards) to complete the slewfoot trip.

As I reported recently, Taylor Hall got a skate to the head and had to receive thirty stitches as a result of it. Here are a couple of photos from the aftermath of his hospital visit.

Boston Bruins fan pushes Tampa Bay’s Mascot Thunderbug

By Kevin on January 19, 2012 in Boston Bruins, News & Rants, Tampa Bay Lightning

After getting sprayed from point-blank range with some silly string, an upset Bruins fan goes after Tampa Bay’s mascot and gives him a push. He is then kicked out of the game. Seems a little silly to me, as it was just a little shove. It’s not like he beat the hell out of him (though he looks like he could have), and theres a fairly good reason why he was upset to begin with (though it WAS just silly string). Hot headed much?
